What do you do when you run out of available disk space on your hard drive? One simple means of addressing this situation would be to remove any applications that you have installed on your system and that you rarely if ever use them. There is no point in keeping these applications around if you’re not going to use them.

Another means of addressing this situation would be to move or delete any files that you rarely if ever use, or no longer need. For example, you could take those images from your ’95 vacation and burn them onto a CD or DVD. Or you could take those docs from the same year that you no longer need and delete them.

There is another way to go about things when it comes down to freeing up some disk space – you could archive your existing data. In this regard you can use a Trident Software-developed application that weighs in at little under 2.5MB – I am, of course, talking about PowerZip, a full-featured and easy to use ZIP program.

Using PowerZip is as simple as clicking a mouse button. This is because PowerZip integrates with the right click context menu. All you have to do is select a file, click the right mouse button, and select “Zip” from the menu. It is as simple as that. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the software’s drag and drop functionality. This means you can drag files from the PowerZip window and drop them into any folder you want.

To ensure no one can access the data you archived, PowerZip comes with an encryption and password protection feature. All the encrypted data is encrypted and password protected – only when the correct password is provided, the data will be decrypted and presented.

Speaking of archives, you should know that PowerZip provides support for numerous archive types: Cab, Ace, Rar and many others. Archiving a file or a folder can be done by simply following the step by step wizard.

Pros

The application offers strong encryption that's difficult to break. Besides that, it can password protect created archives. What's more, it allows you to view and edit files inside an archive. Moreover, it supports a wide range of archive formats.

Cons

The program is free to use during the trial period only. PowerZip, an easy to use application that provides all the archive management tools you will ever want.
